Getting Power to Your Home

If you are looking for general information about the process for getting new service or a rough idea of the cost to run a line to your new home or business site, we should be able to help you right over the phone. It would be helpful to have the following information ready when you call:

1.             The name of the nearest neighbor who receives electric service from the Cooperative

2.              The distance between the house site and the closest Co-op electrical pole

3.              Your preference of either overhead or underground service to the site

4.              Anticipated date you desire to have electric service connected

5.              Your name and current address

6.              Your telephone number (home and work)

It is important that you give us as much lead time as possible to serve you. The first step to receiving electric service is to schedule an appointment with our surveyors to visit your site. The Co-op does ask that anyone requesting electric service pay an engineering fee of $210 to cover the cost of this site visit. After the initial site visit, we will be able to give you an estimate of the cost and timing of your project. Some projects can be completed in only a couple of weeks, while others require lengthy pole extensions, which would require easements from several landowners and local and state permits, which could take several months to obtain. That is why it is important that you contact us as early as possible if you would like to start the process of getting new service.

If you wish to have surge protection for your entire home, the best time to set that up is when the Co-op is hooking up the power.
